Matt & Lauren

Admittedly, this wedding we’re featuring is actually our very own day held in the Autumn of 2024 at our favourite Mewburn Park Homestead.

I wanted to share a snapshot of our special day with you to shine a light on what is possible for a cocktail-style reception and how we blended our love for the countryside with our love for a beautiful homely feel…. and lots of flowers!

Our garden ceremony was situated in front of old farm gates and designed to feel like you were amongst an abundance of fresh flowers. I used to be a florist myself and I remember in our shop the feeling when you’re surrounded by so many fresh flowers. Their smell, their beauty. It just instantly makes you feel happy and that’s what I wanted to recreate in the floral designs for our wedding day.

Matt and I couldn’t choose a witness for our registry signing so we decided to incorporate a little bit of our son Xavier’s love for tractors and John Deere and picked a random name out of his old farm hat.
That was a great moment to per people’s attention and give our guests a little laugh.

Cocktail hour was followed with a lavish grazing table and open bar by the stables.

Before guests were welcomed into the clear marquee decked with provincial furnishings and a wall of flowers behind the bar for a styling statement.
Whenever I create a floor plan for a cocktail style reception, I like to incorporate a mix of furnishings to cater to all guest ages but also give texture to the space overall and guide your eye from one moment to the next within the space.

I am quite nostalgic and so we decided to pull our family and friends together to home bake our favourite childhood sweets to contribute to a dessert table. Think grandma’s jelly slice, rum balls, and we included Matt’s all time favourite -A woolies mud cake.

It’s little touches like this that can allow you to put your stamp on your day but still encompass an elevated feel.
