Your Wedding Shouldn’t Look Like Anyone Else's

I read a post that said this recently and it really resonated.
After all, it is the very reason why I got in to wedding planning and styling 15 years ago because back then there were literally only packages to choose from.
A great rinse-and-repeat method for a profitable business, BUT it didn’t put the couple at the centre of it which was crazy to me because the couple was the very reason that company was in business in the first place.

Fast word and thankfully in 2026, having a personalised wedding is the standard now.
BUT somewhere along the way we’ve let trends and Pinterest and Instagram dictate what is relevant, what looks good and what we must include in our wedding.
And we’ve lost ourselves a little along the way.

I understand that not everyone has a creative eye to know how exactly, they put their stamp on their own day.
But that is where Pinterest and Instagram should be tools in our toolkit to help, but not be the final solution. They should be inspiration only. Something to kickstart that creative direction instead of being the end result we need replicate.

In a previous blog post I spoke about what a ‘Luxury Wedding’ actually means. You can read it here if you like. But the crux of it is anchoring back in to the thought that Luxury is something irreplaceable. You can’t buy it twice - Time, Connection.Presence.Memories. People.
Luxury is about how you live your life, not what you have.

Think about it; if you’re dreaming of acreage in the countryside where you have your own vegetable garden, slow mornings, coffee with a view, animals, rolling green hills, crisp morning and nights costed up with a wood fire. That might be your little luxury.
Not the cars, watches, bags.

So your wedding isn’t really any different.

When we’re replicating a table runner full of white roses. Or a draped backdrop. We’re simply following someone else’s definition of luxury or personality.

Working with a Planner and Designer who can look beyond those things and bring a little bit of you back in to your day is how you step in to a wedding that genuinely, authentically feels like you.

Sometimes that’s through styling pieces to build an atmosphere. Sometimes that’s serving toasties as your late night snack.
It doesn’t necessarily need to be the big and bold moments.

So if you’re feeling a little swayed by what you’re seeing online, I want to encourage you to switch off for a sec and start with you.
Go for a walk, no air pods. And just start with you.
Make a dot point list if you need to, thoughts exactly as they come.

And if you need help connecting those dots and translating them in to an experience and a styling design, I would love to hear all about it.
